Lamentations 5 Reads,
1(A) Remember, O LORD, what has befallen us;look, and see(B) our disgrace!
2(C) Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers,
our homes to foreigners.
3We have become orphans, fatherless;
our mothers are like widows.
4We must pay for the water we drink;
the wood we get must be bought.
5(D) Our pursuers are at our necks;[a]
we are weary; we are given no rest.
6We have given the hand to(E) Egypt, and to Assyria,
to get bread enough.
7Our fathers sinned, and are no more;
(F) and we bear their iniquities.
8(G) Slaves rule over us;
there is none to deliver us from their hand.
9(H) We get our bread at the peril of our lives,
because of the sword in the wilderness.
10(I) Our skin is hot as an oven
with(J) the burning heat of famine.
11Women are raped in Zion,
young women in the towns of Judah.
12(K) Princes are hung up by their hands;
(L) no respect is shown to the elders.
13Young men are compelled to(M) grind at the mill,
and boys stagger(N) under loads of wood.
14(O) The old men have left the city gate,
the young men(P) their music.
15(Q) The joy of our hearts has ceased;
(R) our dancing has been turned to mourning.
16(S) The crown has fallen from our head;
woe to us, for we have sinned!
17For this(T) our heart has become sick,
for these things(U) our eyes have grown dim,
18for Mount Zion which lies desolate;
(V) jackals prowl over it.
19(W) But you, O LORD, reign forever;
your throne endures to all generations.
20(X) Why do you forget us forever,
why do you forsake us for so many days?
21(Y) Restore us to yourself, O LORD, that we may be restored!
Renew our days as of old—
22(Z) unless you have utterly rejected us,
and you remain exceedingly angry with us.
...And that was then...
But this a Lamentation fo an ole slave nation
They sayin change a gon come, but da people be gettin impatient
Have you forgotten, my God da shit done happened to us
I know you got a better plan, dats why I give you my trust, but
Can you still see our disgrace? Just hafta witness
a Motherless Child's emotionless face
Inheritance is mishandled, homes is turned over to strangers
Nothin left to take for granted and no money fo no livin wages
We've become orphans, fatherless and jobless
Abused by cops and politicians so we tell em not to bother us
Mothers are like widows livin in buildings without windows
Jus kept in by da fences reminiscent of da prisons'
Got they sons and husbands locked up in a cage
Stead of in chains as a slave
Told we hafta pay fo da water dat we drink
Told to go to schools with fools dats told jus how to think
Wear dat yoke up on yo neck, Got ta work hard for yo respect
Pullin dat 9 to 5 until you weary from no rest
Still need da pity of da government jus to afford to buy some bread
Less ya get evicted, convicted and arrested instead
Our forefathers may have sinned, but they aint around no more
But still we shoulder all they burdens; every day we go to war
Ruled over by da slaves of da new Man,
Cuz aint no deliverance hear to take us out his hands
We buy our bread for the prices dat
Range from our dignity to our lives
Be game playin to be gettin high
Else you be scrapin to get by
And souls get blacker then folks' skin
When they scorched and burned from famine in
The ghetto cities that they get stuck in
Murder, rape and pillage in da streets we born and raised up in
God, it feels like you done left outta Zion,
Feels like Judah cept without no lion
So do you still hear all your children cryin?
To hell wit ghetto devil, den, we gonna defy him
